TN-DOLWD

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Tennessee’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.4 percent, the lowest jobless rate the state has seen since late 2007.

The unemployment number for January dropped two tenths of one percent from the December figure. The national unemployment rate for January was half-a-percent lower at 4.9 percent.

Tennessee added just over 13,000 jobs between December, 2015, and January, 2016, mostly in retail, construction and professional services. Jobs were lost in leisure, hospitality and government employment.

More than 3 million Tennesseans are employed at the moment, with about 165,000 currently seeking work.
