Thieves steal Murf. man's Bible, leave him injured

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A Murfreesboro man was beaten and robbed Monday evening and among other items the thieves made off with his Bible.

Bradyville Pike resident Carlos Vargas says he was talking on his cell phone outside his apartment Monday a little after 6 p.m. when he was approached by three men.

Vargas says one of the men punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground and then all three began to kick and punch him.

Vargas tells police he offered the men what he had on him, including a cell phone, cash and even his pocket Bible. He says the men took his belongings, including the Bible, and escaped on foot.

Vargas was taken to ER at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital and treated for his injuries before being released.

The case has been turned over to MPD detectives for investigation.
