Tip and quick police response keep meth batch off Murf. streets

MPD

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  -- A timely tip from a Murfreesboro resident and quick action by police has kept a batch of home-cooked methamphetamine from reaching the city’s streets.

An employee at the Rock Tenn warehouse on S. Rutherford called police late Monday night to say he’d seen an SUV pull to the back of the company’s lot. A man then got out and walked into the woods.

Soon after a patrol officer arrived 25-year-old Dustin K. Underhill walked out of the woods. He initially told the officer he’d been fishing at a nearby pond, but the officer pointed out he didn’t have a fishing pole.

Underhill eventually scuffled with the officer and fled back into the woods, but was quickly taken into custody.

Police say there was a meth cooking kit found in the backpack Underhill was wearing. Items in the pack tested positive for meth and the pre-cursor chemicals required to make it.

Underhill was booked into the Rutherford County Jail on a charge of violation of probation.
