UPDATE: Riverdale coach recovering after attack

Student charged with assaulting high school football coach

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) Authorities say a high school football coach in Middle Tennessee is recovering at a hospital after a student attacked him in his office.

Tom Nolan, who is the principal at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, told The Daily News that coach Ron Aydelott suffered serious injuries to his face on Tuesday and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for surgery.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Department says a 17-year-old student was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. A school resource officer transported him to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.

Nolan said the student was not a football player.
