UPDATE: Search warrants served at the home of RuCo Sheriff Robert Arnold

RCSO

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and FBI have executed search warrants at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office and the sheriff's home.

TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said in a statement on Thursday that the warrants are part of an ongoing investigation into possible public corruption involving multiple targets within the sheriff's department.

DeVine said he couldn't discuss specifics because of the continuing investigation.

The Sheriff’s troubles began in early April when a local TV station revealed that some of Arnold’s relatives and one of his top deputies held an exclusive contract to sell e-cigarettes at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center that Arnold supervises.

In the weeks since, other financial dealings at the Sheriff’s Office have also been questioned.

This past week, the Rutherford County Commission approved funds for use by its Ethics Committee to look into accusations against Arnold and the department.

A citizen’s group and at least one County Commissioner have called on Arnold to resign.

Arnold hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing, but did terminate the e-cig contract and suspended the deputy who co-owned the business.
