Vanderbilt rapists to be sentenced March 6

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — The mid-state is bussing today about the verdict reached in the Vanderbilt rape trial Tuesday and the story has receive national attention.

The two former Vanderbilt football players convicted of raping a former student are scheduled to be sentenced on March 6. They face the possibility of decades in prison.

The jury deliberated for about three hours before finding Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey guilty Tuesday afternoon.

Prosecutors say Vandenburg brought an unconscious 21-year-old woman he had been seeing back to his dorm room after a night of drinking in 2013 and the assault occurred as he took pictures.

Trial dates for two other former players who are facing charges have not been set.

The victim said in a statement after the convictions that she was hopeful the case would prompt discussion of how to end sexual violence on college campuses
