Walmart Announces Plan to Build a New Store in LaVergne

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The City of LaVergne has announced that Walmart will build a new store in the city at the corner of Murfreesboro Road and Fergus Road.

LaVergne Mayor Senna Mosely says the city has been working to convince the retail giant to open a store there for three years.

She says Walmart will present a site plan soon, but there’s no word yet on  when the new store might open.

Mayor Mosely says she expects the store to employ about 400 people and significantly expand the city’s tax base.

She says the store will undoubtedly attract other smaller stores and restaurants to the area as well.

Murfreesboro is getting a couple of new Walmart stores. One store is already under construction near the airport. A smaller store has also been approved for South Church Street.
