LAVERGNE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A mid-state community has been named one of the best small cities in American to start a business.

WMOT reporting partner Wallethub.com used 17 business criteria to compare 1200 small cities across the U.S. Rutherford County’s LaVergne came in at fifth in the nation, the only small city in Tennessee to make the list.

Wallethub analyst Jill Gonzalez says LaVergne owes its top ranking to an outstanding business environment.

“Top ten almost across the board. I mean for the average revenue – this is sales receipts, values of shipments for businesses here – LaVergne came in number one. Businesses there, on average, are brining in $35 million a year.”

Gonzalez says LaVergne also gets high marks for low costs, with average employee salaries and the cost of retail space well below the national average.
