NES

NASHVILLE, TN (WMOT)  --  The National Weather Service says Tuesday’s mid-state storms produced two tornados.

WSMV-TV reports the Weather Service has confirmed two EF-1 tornadoes touched down in Middle Tennessee. An EF-1 tornado can produce winds between 85 and 110 miles per hour.

The first tornado touched down in Pickett County and moved into Fentress County. The second tornado touched down just outside Cookeville.

Putnam County Emergency Management says about 15 homes and business in the area were damaged.

Middle Tennessee Truss Company on Buffalo Valley Road in Cookeville was heavily damaged. Owner Steve Nash tells reporters his workers had just enough time to take cover before wood and metal began flying everywhere.

Davidson County saw some minor damage, mostly downed trees and power lines.

NES reported that about 2600 customers remained without power at dawn Wednesday morning, mostly in the south-central metro area. That was down from a peak of about 8,000 homes without powerTuesday evening after the storms passed.
