NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Williamson County defense attorney says he should be referred to in court as "Captain Justice."
The suggestion came in response to a motion from Assistant District Attorney General Tammy Rettig in which she asked to be referred to as "General Rettig," among other titles.
Rettig argued in her motion that defense attorneys refer to prosecutors as "the government" in court in order to "inflame the jury."
Instead, she asked the judge to order defense attorneys to call her by various other titles including "General."
In his response, defense attorney Drew Justice argued the motion should be dismissed. Alternately, he suggested he be referred to as "Captain Justice" or "defender of the innocent" and the defendant be called "that innocent man."
The judge has not yet ruled on the motion.
