A win and a loss for mid-state teams at the NCAA tourney

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP/WMOT)  --  The NCAA tourney got off to a mixed start for mid-state teams.

Vanderbilt University lost a squeaker yesterday to Northwestern 68-66. Commodores guard Matthew Fisher-Davis inexplicably grabbed Wildcats guard Bryant McIntosh on purpose, sending McIntosh to the free throw line for the go-ahead points with 15 seconds left.

Middle Tennessee State proved it’s no one-year wonder yesterday, taking down top-seeded Minnesota 81-72.  Reggie Upshaw scored 19 points, Giddy Potts added 15.

This is the second year MTSU has upset a big ten team. Last year’s surprise win against Michigan State made the Blue Raiders a household name nationwide.
