WMOT News and student partners win multiple AP News Excellence awards

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  WMOT is pleased to report that WMOT News and the station's student reporting partners at Middle Tennessee State University won more than 40 News Excellence Awards during the annual Associated Press college and professional news contests.

WMOT Radio News and our College radio news student partners won 14 awards. You can read and/or listen to most of this year's award winning stories using the links provided below.

Student reporter Alandria Barker was awarded First Place Prize for the Best Radio News Story in the AP college contest for a story entitled "Tennessee Confronts Human Trafficking.”

Barker was also awarded a First Place Prize Best Radio Specialized/Topic Reporting for a story entitled "International Students Adapt to Mid-State Universities”

Student reporter Erin Thomas was awarded a First Place Prize for the Best Use of Sound for a story entitled "Jazz Workshop Alive and Well in the Country Music Capital.”

WMOT News Director Mike Osborne was awarded a First Place Prize for the Best Use of Sound in a story entitled "The Ancient Art of Falconry Alive and Well in Tennessee.”

Other prizes awarded included:

  • Best Radio Newscast: 2nd, WMOT-FM, Murfreesboro, "WMOT News at Noon 150701", Mike Osborne, Alandria Barker.
