NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) â?? A woman who dropped off her newborn baby at a Nashville fire station in August has come forward to reclaim the child.
Tennessee Department of Children's Services spokeswoman Carrie Ferguson Weir told WSMV-TV that DNA testing has proven the woman is the birth mother.
Weir said the department is reviewing the woman's case and assessing her home. She says DCS will return the child to the woman if they determine that it is safe to do so.
Tennessee's Safe Haven law allows mothers to drop off their infants at certain locations if they are unable to care for them.
Parents who surrender unharmed infants that are less than 72 hours old have 30 days in which they can reclaim their children.
