Youth Dance Auditions for Holday Nutcracker Underway

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Nashville Ballet is conducting youth cast auditions for its annual holiday production of the Nutcracker.

The Ballet calls this “Nashville’s Nutcracker” because the production has a strong Music City flavor.

On Sunday the ballet auditioned just over 100 young dancers ranging in age from 7 to 11 years. A second audition will take place this Sunday, September 15, to fill a total of about 160 roles.

Sharyn Mahoney is the ballet’s Director of Artistic Operations. She says the ballet is always looking for more boys to audition.

“The boys really don’t need to have much experience, because we want them – you know, ideally – to be a party boy. We want them to be a boy – on stage. Pretty easy!”

Auditions are being held at the ballet’s Martin Center on Redmon St. Registration begins at 11:30. For more information visit nashvilleballet.com.
