Beretta to Build New Firearms Plant in Tenn.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Italian gun maker Beretta says it is building a new manufacturing and research facility in Tennessee.

The $45 million plant in the Nashville suburb of Gallatin is projected to create 300 new jobs.

The family-owned company has operated in Italy since 1526. Beretta makes a variety of firearms, ranging from hunting shotguns to the U.S. Armed Forces M-9 pistol.

Atlanta-based ExpressJet Hires Six MTSU Flight Instructors

An agreement between the Middle Tennessee State University aerospace department and College Park, Ga.-based ExpressJet recently paid dividends when six university flight instructors were hired after all completed the same-day interview process.

All six — Patrick Brightman of Cordova, Tenn., Leland Waite of Meridan, Idaho, Alex Neal of Sweetwater, Tenn., Jarred Timok of Glen Allen, Va., Justin Forbess of Munford, Tenn., and Ethan Rawdon of Hohenwald, Tenn. — will join ExpressJet at various times in the coming months.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Six Middle Tennessee State University flight instructors have been hired by ExpressJet Airlines.

All of them graduated from the university's nationally ranked aerospace program and were hired after completing the same-day interview process.

Nashville Metroplex Makes List of Top Ten Places to Own a Home

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Nashville metro area has been named one of the best places to own a home by the personal finance website Nerdwallet.

In a study that looked at affordability, home ownership rates, and population growth, the Davidson, Rutherford, Williamson County metroplex placed 5th, just ahead of San Antonia, and just behind Indianapolis.

Nerdwallet analyst Jame Ortiz says the low cost of owning a home in the mid-state helped the area place in the top ten large metro areas in the nation.

Tennessee Jobless Rate Drops in December, Numbers Deceiving

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Tennessee’s employment numbers for December are out and they show a significant drop from the November jobless rate.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development says unemployment in December was down to 7.8 percent, that’s three-tenths of a percent lower than the November rate.

But Department spokesman Jeff Hentschel says the decrease did not result from more jobs being created.
