Nashville Metroplex Makes List of Top Ten Places to Own a Home

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Nashville metro area has been named one of the best places to own a home by the personal finance website Nerdwallet.

In a study that looked at affordability, home ownership rates, and population growth, the Davidson, Rutherford, Williamson County metroplex placed 5th, just ahead of San Antonia, and just behind Indianapolis.

Nerdwallet analyst Jame Ortiz says the low cost of owning a home in the mid-state helped the area place in the top ten large metro areas in the nation.

Tennessee Jobless Rate Drops in December, Numbers Deceiving

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Tennessee’s employment numbers for December are out and they show a significant drop from the November jobless rate.

The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development says unemployment in December was down to 7.8 percent, that’s three-tenths of a percent lower than the November rate.

But Department spokesman Jeff Hentschel says the decrease did not result from more jobs being created.

Tennessee Competing for Chance to Build New Volkswagen SUV

DETROIT (AP/WMOT) — Volkswagen's new seven-passenger SUV will go on sale in the U.S. in 2016, and it could be manufactured in Tennessee.

The German automaker's CEO, Martin Winterkorn, confirmed the timing of the new vehicle yesterday on the eve of the Detroit auto show.

The VW plant in Chattanooga and a plant in Mexico are in the running to build the SUV.

Winterkorn said the new SUV will be part of a five-year, $7 billion investment in North America.
