The New York Philharmonic and the Music Academy of the West have entered into a four-year partnership that will create unique and intensive opportunities for selected Music Academy Fellows to train with New York Philharmonic musicians and Music Director Alan Gilbert in Santa Barbara and New York.
— “Steinway Artist” Heather Conner will present a free public piano concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in Hinton Music Hall inside MTSU's Wright Music Building.
Conner, who is a professor of piano at the University of Utah, will perform works by Frédéric Chopin, including “Nocturne in B Major,” “Barcarolle in F-Sharp Major” and “Étude in C-Sharp Minor,” along with Franz Schubert’s “Sonata in C Minor” and Samuel Barber’s “Souvenirs for Piano Four-Hands, Ballet Suite.”
This Thursday, March 27, Alessio Bax – winner of Lincoln Center’s 2013 Martin E. Segal Award – pairs Beethoven’s “Hammerklavier” Sonata with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s new “Art of the Recital” series at the Rose Studio.
The voices of young artists from across Tennessee will ring out in MTSU's Wright Music Building Wednesday night, and once again MTSU students will be working to ensure the artists and audience have a stellar experience.
MTSU students are coordinating the 2014 Tennessee VSA Young Soloist competition, which is open to any vocalist or instrumentalist age 14 to 25 with any form of disability. The state event feeds into an annual international competition, which will be hosted by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., on June 1.
