Jeremy Denk Is Named Winner of 2014 Avery Fisher Prize

It has just been announced that Jeremy Denk – “one of his generation’s most eloquent and thoughtful interpreters” (New York Times) – has won the 2014 Avery Fisher Prize, one of classical music’s most coveted honors. Selected for his artistic excellence and outstanding contributions to the music world, the pianist, who is also a former Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient, will be formally recognized at an invitational ceremony on Thursday, May 29, at Lincoln Center.

Mid-South Flute Festival to be Held at MTSU

The 2014 Mid-South Flute Festival will take place March 28-29 at MTSU. Featuring guest artist Goran Marcusson, the festival will also offer opportunities for students and adult flutists to perform, to attend workshops and concerts, and to shop in a fully stocked exhibit hall. Music City Baroque Presents Chamber Music of Georg Philipp Telemann

Four Members of Music City Baroque

In the early 1700s, it was Telemann, not J.S. Bach, who was considered the greatest of the German composers. As music director of the five churches in Hamburg, Telemann wrote a prodigious amount of sacred music, including over a thousand cantatas. But he went beyond that, writing opera (a decision that the church did not appreciate) and numerous secular cantatas, songs, suites, sonatas and instrumental music.
