Jackson is MTSU Black History Month Keynote

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. will make an appearance this week here in Middle Tennessee.

The son of Civil Rights icon the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Jess Jackson Jr. is scheduled to speak Friday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.  He was originally slated to be MTSU’s keynote speaker for Black History Month festivities in February, but had to reschedule the appearance.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) – The founder of one of Middle Tennessee’s most successful and widely recognized charities speaks Tuesday in Murfreesboro.

The Rev. Becca Stevens will put in an appearance today on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, where she’ll discuss how she uses social entrepreneurship to help troubled women.

Stevens was recently recognized by President Obama as one of 15 “Champions of Change” in a special White House ceremony. Stevens is the founder of Nashville’s Magdalene House and Thistle Farms.

Students Head to Hollywood This Weekend

MTSU Students Up for College TV EMMY

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Three students from Middle Tennessee State are headed to Hollywood this weekend to pick up the college version of an EMMY Award.

Erica Doyle, Fadia Patterson and former student Marquee Doyle will attend the 33rd Annual College Television Awards presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The trio will represent the program KOURE-TV, a variety show that airs on MTSU’s student run station MT-10.

Murfreesboro Man Arrested by MTSU Police

Sexual Exploitation of Child Charged

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  -- A Murfreesboro man was arrested earlier this week on three counts of sexual exploitation after police say he took three nude photos of a 4-year-old girl.

Middle Tennessee State University campus police say they arrested 22 year-old Robert L. Hunt, of 303 Fairfax Dr., on Monday. Hunt reportedly admitted to taking the photos while babysitting the girl.

Movie Tackles Thorny Gay Marriage Issue

MTSU Proff. Nears Completion of New Film

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A new film debuting Thursday on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University will likely prove controversial.

The Miracles on Honey Bill Hill is a new movie from award winning filmmaker and MTSU Professor Dr. Bob Pondillo. Pondillo tells his story as a fable set in an imaginary land and using a combination of live action and animation.

The 20 minute film addresses the thorny issue of gay marriage and Pondillo made a conscious choice to use child actors.
