MURFREESBORO— There’s a new mid-state based online literary journal featuring Tennessee talent.

The website “2nd & Church” is the creation of Middle Tennessee State Professor of English Alvin Knox. The journal is accepting submissions in poetry, creative nonfiction, technical writing, literary fiction, poetry, translation and commercial fiction.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders are on their way to Florida for Saturday’s game against Florida International University at Miami.

The last couple of weeks have been a real roller-coaster ride for MTSU. Two weeks ago the Blue Raiders pummeled Georgia Tech 49 to 28. But this past week the Raiders stumbled against the University of Louisiana at Monroe, losing their homecoming game 31-17.

FIU will be playing their homecoming game, and Coach Rick Stockstill says MT will have to be in top form to win.

WASHINGTON (AP/WMOT) — The U.S. unemployment rate has fallen below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years.

The U.S. Labor Department says the jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent last month as employers added 114,000 jobs.

The State of Tennessee won’t release its unemployment numbers for September for another two weeks, but joblessness in Tennessee has been climbing steadily in recent months. The unemployment rate stood at 8.4 percent in August.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Enrollment at most of Tennessee’s public colleges and universities is down significantly this fall.

The Tennessee Board of Regents system is reporting a decline in full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollment of 4.4 percent from fall 2011. TBR’s six universities and 13 colleges are all showing flat or falling enrollment.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT)– New meningitis cases are being reported in Middle Tennessee for the third time this week and the fourth time in a month.

WTVF-TV says officials are reporting four to seven cases of viral meningitis Tuesday among students at Oak View Elementary in Williamson County. Cleaning crews are in the process of disinfecting the school.

Monday the Centers for Disease Control reported that they’re investigating 11 cases of meningitis tied to a Saint Thomas facility in Nashville. Two patients involved in that case have since died.
