Tenn. Based Nissan North America Posts Record Sales Gains

DETROIT (AP/WMOT) — Most major car companies posted impressive sales gains in November, including Middle Tennessee based Nissan North America.

Superstorm Sandy gave an added push to already strong U.S. auto sales last month. But carmakers warn uncertainty over the "fiscal cliff" could hurt sales in coming months.

Most major companies, from Toyota to Chrysler, posted impressive increases from a year earlier. Only General Motors was left struggling to explain its lackluster 3-percent sales gain.

Big Mid-State Employer Sees Sales Decline

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  -- Some disappointing sales numbers were released Wednesday by one of Middle Tennessee’s biggest employers.

Nissan reported a sales drop in September of 2.4 percent. The company’s North American division, headquartered in Franklin, fared somewhat better with a sales decline of just over one percent.

There were some bright spots. Sales of the Nissan Rogue and Pathfinder were both up significantly.

Nissan says September sales of its new LEAF, all-electric vehicle, were the best the car has seen this year.
