Gov. Haslam's Conservative Credentials Questioned

NASHVILLE, Tenn (AP) — Two county chapters of the Tennessee GOP say Governor Haslam isn’t conservative enough and have passed resolutions calling on state party leaders to sanction him.

The groups condemned the Republican governor for hiring gay individuals and Democrats to serve in his administration..

Here in Middle Tennessee, the Williamson County Republican Party recently passed a resolution calling on the governor to reconsider his appointment of a Muslim-American lawyer to his economic development staff.

Congressional Field Hearing Convenes in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — A Congressional Field Hearing was conducted Monday in Murfreesboro.  The meeting is an official session of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, but none of the committee’s Democrats are in attendance.

Among those who did turn out include Gov. Bill Haslam, U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker, along with U.S. Reps. Scott Desjarlais, Diane Black and Marsha Blackburn…all Republicans.

Today’s hearing is entitled "Tennessee Job Creation: Do Federal Government Regulations Help or Hinder Tennessee's Economic Development?"

Governor Says Leave Decision to Local Government

Haslam Out of Step with GOP on "Living Wage" Issue

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Gov. Bill Haslam says he wants to leave it up to local governments to decide whether to set their own wage requirements for contractors.

Haslam's stance puts him at odds with some fellow Republicans in the State General Assembly.

Two Republican legislators have announced plans to submit a measure that would ban higher wage requirements set by local governments and repeal those standards already enacted.
