MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold says he won't leave office despite facing federal corruption charges.

The Daily News Journal reports Arnold sent a text message Saturday to one of the newspaper's reporters that said he had no intention of resigning.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A new Census Bureau report lists Murfreesboro as one of the fastest growing small cities in America, but a local builder says rapid growth also means significant problems.

Chris Jensen is President of the Rutherford County Home Builder’s Association. He says the area’s builders are happy with the work strong growth brings, especially after struggling through years of economic downturn.

Heavy Turnouts Reported for Early Voting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Tennessee election officials report that nearly 605,000 people have cast ballots as the state's early voting period hits its halfway mark.

Secretary of State Tre Hargett says the early voting turnout so far as high.

In Rutherford County, Elections Coordinator Nicole Lester reports a heavy turnout as well. As of Thursday morning, right at 30,000 voters have already cast ballots.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A spokesman for the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro now says congregants likely will not get to celebrate the beginning of Ramadan in their new mosque.

The Center’s leadership filed a lawsuit in federal court in Nashville yesterday, asking that a chancery court order denying them occupancy of the new building be lifted immediately.  That order was granted yesterday evening.
