Middle Tennessee Defeats North Texas 75-57

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Marcos Knight notched 12 points as Middle Tennessee remained perfect in Sun Belt Conference action with a 75-57 win over North Texas Monday night.

Raymond Cintron added 11 points for the Blue Raiders (11-3, 3-0), who got points from 10 different players and shot 50 percent (31 of 62) from the field.

Middle Tennessee is now 8-0 at home this year and has won 19 straight at Murphy Center.

Tony Mitchell scored 13 points with 11 rebounds for his 14th career double-double for North Texas (5-9, 0-3).

Middle Tennessee rallies to beat Vanderbilt 56-52

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tweety Knight scored a go-ahead layup with 1:08 left to lift Middle Tennessee State to a 56-52 victory over Vanderbilt on Friday night.

Bruce Massey scored 17 points to lead the Blue Raiders (9-3), who ended the game on a 16-3 run to get their first win against Vanderbilt since 1995.

After Knight's layup, Kerry Hammonds plucked a steal from Kedren Johnson and finished with a layup for a three-point cushion. Johnson missed a 3-pointer and Raymond Cintron's free throws with 7.5 seconds left sealed the win.

Big Win for MT Basketball Ahead of Vanderbilt Game

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. A mid-state basketball rivalry turned into a route Tuesday night as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders beat the Tennessee State Tigers 77 - 48 at Murphy Center.

Raymond Cintron led the Blue Raiders with 15 points, tying a career-high.  MTSU's Marcos Knight, Neiko Hunter, and Shawn Jones also scored in double digits.

The MT men play one of the season’s most anticipated games Friday night when they meet Vanderbilt at Bridgestone Arena. Tipoff in Nashville is set for 8 p.m. with the game being televised on ESPNU.

A Challenging Weekend for Blue Raider Basketball

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (BEASLEY)  --   Middle Tennessee's men's and women's basketball teams have found success early on, earning a combined record of 13-5.

With wins over Central Florida and UAB, the men's basketball team looks to be in mid-season form heading into Saturday's showdown with SEC opponent Ole Miss.

Coming off a big win over Xavier at home Thursday, the women’s team also has a tough matchup this weekend, heading to Kentucky to play the Wildcats this Sunday.

ETSU Considers Adding Football Program

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — The president of East Tennessee State University says the school might begin a football program.The Johnson City Press (http://bit.ly/UHZdBL ) reported university President Brian Noland said intercollegiate football was among recommendations of committees who looked at the school's future.

Others to be considered are opening a dental school and building a performing arts center.

Noland said as the recommendations are discussed, ETSU will gauge community support as well as campus reaction.
