Deer Related Crashes Up in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT)  --  The Tennessee Highway Patrol is advising motorists to watch out for deer crossing roads during mating and hunting season.

The THP says an increase in deer-related crashes is likely from now through December. Deer are more likely to be on the move during mating season, especially during daybreak and dusk.

THP head Colonel Tracy Trott says you should avoid swerving in an effort to miss an approaching deer.

"In God We Trust" Approved for Putnam Courthouse

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — The Putnam County Commission has voted unanimously to place the national motto "In God We Trust" on all four sides of the county courthouse.

The commission vote Monday night approved a recommendation made by its planning committee last week.

The idea originated at Cookeville’s Colonial View Baptist Church where the Rev. Al Gaspard is the pastor.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP/WMOT) — Both campaign teams are calling Tuesday night's presidential debate a win for their candidate.

President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney engaged in a pushy, interruption-filled encounter, making charges and countercharges that the other guy wasn't telling the truth.

The candidates will meet for their third and final debate Monday, October 22. 

WMOT is asking Tennesseans what one question they would ask the candidates if given the chance. Today we hear from Eben Cathy of the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition.

Tenn. Domestic Violence Down Slightly, 96 Die in 2011

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) --  The annual report on domestic violence in Tennessee is out this week.

The report shows a slight decline in domestic cases in each of the last three years. However, more than 85,000 Tennesseans fell victim to domestic violence in 2011.  Ninety-six of them were murdered.

The majority of victims are female, but men reported being the target of domestic violence in nearly three cases in ten.

Blue Raider Football Loses Key Player for the Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill says senior running back Benny Cunningham will miss the rest of the season after hurting his left knee in last weekend's win at FIU.

Results of Cunningham's MRI exam came back Monday, and Stockstill says Cunningham will have surgery by the end of this week.
