MURFREESBORO, Tenn (WMOT) -- The Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville is holding a conference this weekend designed to help Christians explore issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.
The Center’s Boo Tyson says the seminar is open to anyone interested in the intersection of faith and LGBTQ issues. She especially hopes the conference will attract those in leadership positions in the Christian community.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Middle Tennessee electric violinist Tracy Silverman and the Nashville Symphony are preparing to debut a new concerto by renowned composer Terry Riley.
Silverman and Riley were commissioned by the symphony to create the new concerto and have been working on the piece since 2010. They’ve entitled the work “Palmian Chord Ryddle” and Silverman describes the music as a mash-up of reggae and ragtime, containing both contemporary and ancient musical elements.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Earth Day will be celebrated around the world this Sunday and several Middle Tennessee communities have events planned.
Metro Nashville will hold its Earth Day celebration on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Event organizer Sharon Smith is expecting a big crowd.
“Somewhere around 10,000 people and more from the Middle Tennessee area coming. The Nashville Earth Day Festival is the largest Earth Day celebration in Middle Tennessee, maybe even the state, and we’re very proud that it has grown each year.”
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) — Rutherford County Schools have a new director elect.
The county Board of Education unanimously chose Don Odom Monday night to replace current director Harry Gill. Odom previously served as the district’s assistant superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
A school system press statement said Odom is a lifelong resident of Rutherford County and has spent his entire career with Rutherford County Schools. Odom earned his bachelor’s and graduate degrees from Middle Tennessee State University.
