KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — University of Tennessee officials say prayer before football games at Neyland Stadium does not violate the U.S. Constitution.

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, the university is preparing a formal response to a letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). University spokeswoman Margie Nichols says the administration believes there is no reason to halt the tradition of a pre-kickoff invocation.

MURFREESBORO, TENN. (HUBBARD)  --  WMOT continues to explore what the fall football season might have in store for Tennessee schools.  University of Tennessee fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about in recent seasons,  but there is some reason for Vols fans to be optimistic in 2012.

Tennessee stumbled through a 5-7 season in 2011 and ended it with a humiliating loss to rival Kentucky.

The defense was ranked 27th nationally and helped the team stay competitive in games against Georgia and South Carolina.

Ten students and two professors from MTSU left the Mid-State Monday morning to participate in a restoration mission in Fukushima, Japan.

According to a press statement from Middle Tennessee State, 95 percent of the rubble remains to be cleared away following the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear meltdown that killed nearly 16,000 people.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  (WMOT)  --  Fire Departments throughout Tennessee are having trouble finding and keeping volunteers, and that may impact what you pay for home-owners insurance, or even put your family at increased risk.

Kevin Lauer is a fire management consultant with the University of Tennessee’s County Technical Assistance Service. He says fire fighting is a difficult and dangerous job that requires a significant time commitment and volunteers are getting harder to come by.
